John Stephens

John Stephens has worked in the Nursery and Landscaping fields for almost 30 years. John has been employed by the City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department for 20 years on September 18th. He is currently working in the Park & Recreations Open Space division as a pesticide applicator. The main focus of this position is to work in the City’s almost 24,000 open space acres attempting to control/diminish the impact of invasive weed/plant species on the native environment, giving the native flora & fauna the best chance for possible recovery and ultimately full restoration.

John has been a PAPA member and on the PAPA San Diego/Escondido seminar committee for about 6 years. He is also in his second year on the PAPA Board of Directors and has been the chair of the Regulatory Oversight committee, is currently chair on the Membership & Sponsorship committee (sunset), and is on the Executive committee as a member at large.

John has been married to a wonderful woman for 24 years and has one daughter who teaches elementary education in Portland, Oregon. He also has one dog that digs like a back-hoe, but fills their lives with laughter and unconditional love. John’s hobbies include: gardening, MMA, weights & kettle bells, eating Mexican food.
